As a product of the two longest rivers in Italy, the Adige and the Po, the history of the Province of Rovigo is in its own essence the history of a long boundary, which was subject to different invasions and dominations. Place of meeting and commercial exchanges between the south and the north of Europe, it was crossed by legions, kings, emperors, dukes, popes and lansquenets.

Nowadays Polesine is the result of an improvement which has been waited for, look for and built for a long time. Thanks to this rebirth, an identity has been achieved which is in syntony with the characteristics of the land. It has become a shared value to be passed on to our future generations.

In 2001 we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the great flood, a tragic event which marked the destiny of the Polesine area and its people. However, it was the chance to check the great changes which had been taking place.

The agriculture economy has changed into a mixed economy where industry is in synergy with agriculture itself, crafts have become a reference point and fishing plays an important role in the Po Delta area. We are working to preserve our territory and to increase its value by tuning in the development and the safeguard of the environment. An example of this attitude can be seen in the Po Delta area, which is probably the most important humid area in Europe where the river Po is seen as an element that unites different traditions, cultures and economic realities.

The commitment of the Institutions, the brave action of our enterprises and social forces have been able to keep the Polesine area linked to the rest of the Veneto Region. Facing the third millennium, we are therefore convinced that we do need to work together to find shared solutions which are able to create a system. We need to spread an idea of community, an idea shared by everyone, in order to form the mosaic of the future development.
